Call it whatever you like - documentary, reportage, candid, contemporary. It doesn't really matter what label you use, what matters are the photographs.
If you're not interested in spending your precious time posing for photographs, and would rather spend it enjoying yourself with friends and family, then you need a photographer that will stay out of the way and let you get on with it.
Let me tell the story of your wedding day...
because you need to see more than just one-off portfolio pictures.

some things you'll want to ask.
some things you'll want to ask.
As many as necessary. I try to be there as early as needed to get a good set of pictures of the bride and groom getting ready, and I stay at least until the first dance, and usually a bit longer. There's no need for you to worry about how many hours you've paid for and whether I'm going to leave before the first dance. I'm not a clockwatcher!
Yes. I shoot everything on high-end digital cameras which shoot in colour. However, I'm a big fan of black and white photographs and when doing the post-production work on your images, I will make monochrome conversions of most of them. When I do, you will get both the colour and monochrome image files so you can choose which you like best.
Yes. Although the vast majority of my photographs will be candid, documentary style moments, I understand that most people want to get a few formal group shots. I'm happy to do these and I keep it very simple so they usually don't take long.
No. Don't worry about me. I usually take a break during the meal and bring my own food.
No. Working as an unobtrusive documentary photographer is much more difficult if you have an assistant in tow! I've never found I've needed one.
While this isn't really important, since its the photographs that matter, not the equipment used, I do get asked this a lot. I’m currently working with high-end Sony mirrorless cameras, plus a full set of lenses.
I aim to supply approximately 250 high resolution, colour corrected, print-ready images on your flash drive. Most of these will be supplied in both black and white and colour. Over the years I've found that 250 works out to be a good number - enough so you have plenty of variety and comprehensive coverage, but not too many that its overwhelming. Nobody needs to see 1000 pictures from a wedding day - you should only see the very best work.
No. I will supply you with a USB flash drive from which you can have your own prints made, but if you would like to choose photographs to be printed in a top quality album, I will happily arrange that for you. Personally, even with all the latest technology that's now available, I still think the best way to present your pictures is in printed form. See the "Albums" page for more information.
Yes. I have both professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
I have a network of colleagues who also shoot weddings in a very similar style to me. They are experienced professionals and I would have no hesitation in calling on them to cover for me in circumstances where it was impossible for me to get to your wedding. So far, this has never been necessary. I have a new, reliable car, with full AA cover, multiple cameras and lenses in case of failure and a comprehensive computer backup system to keep your images safe after the wedding. Trust me, I'm more paranoid about this stuff than you are!
